Once there lived a very sensitive child named Elizabeth. Each day after school, this shy girl would rush home to play piano and sing before her parents returned from work.
When she came of age, Elizabeth moved away from her hometown of Ottawa, Ontario to the magical land of Montreal, Quebec. There she studied the music of the old masters, and in 2004 earned a degree from McGill University.
While learning classical techniques in piano, voice, and composition, Elizabeth remained devoted to pop music in the style of Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush and Tori Amos. In early 2006 she released a three song mini-CD called "Handmaden," that was sold in Distroboto machines around Montreal. Later that year she recorded ten songs at the Treatment Room, which were released on her debut album "As We Sadden Each Other to Sleep," in 2007.
In recent years she has performed on stages in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Peterborough and Halifax. She has performed at festivals such as UnPop Montreal, Art Matters, and the Montreal Fringe Festival.
"Elizabeth Bruce has a powerful voice that you can tell she's been working to tame. Her compositions don't go the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift. In fact the piano arrangements were delightfully dissonant. The lyric content put her squarely into the emoter category, but there was a dramatic self-awareness... helpful, even necessary to navigating her dark themes." -Marcus McCann
